House of Illness :(

Mama C had a house full of sickies last week, but everyone seems to be on the mend. Here's the rundown:

Ella's cold turned into walking pneumonia. Needless to say, we've been worried sick about her. The pediatrician put her on a strong antibiotic. She seems to be doing much better now as a result. She goes back to the doctor today for a check up, so please send lots of prayers her way. This poor kid needs a long break from illness. She just keeps catching stuff.

Dada M also had a virus of some sort that made him feel terrible. He missed work on Friday afternoon and didn't go back until Tuesday. He's doing much better now too.

Mama C stayed home with the sickies from Friday afternoon through Wednesday, returning to work on Thursday. Nonni came up Tuesday night and helped me and Ella tremendously. Oma brought over two different soups, and bread, and cookies. Big thanks to the grandmas!

Surprisingly, Mama C is well and hasn't caught anything yet. We would have had a real disaster on our hands of mommy was sick too. Thanks be to God on that one, because I'm usually alwasy the one who is sick.

We're looking forward to Ella getting a healthy diagnosis and enjoying some family fun in Santa Cruz in late August.

Hope all our friends and family are well!

P.S. Is anyone reading this blog? If so, please leave me a comment. It would be nice to know there are readers out there... :)

Ella Happenings

Just wanted to make some quick notes on Ella related stuff that I want to be sure to remember:

Her favorite words are: "No"; "More" (which she pronounces "Moe"); and "Hi."

She pronounces "hungry" as "hun-gee." It's adorable!

Ella is an Elmo addict. She only wants to watch Elmo--not any other cartoon or even any other section of Sesame Street. It's Elmo's World or nothing at all.

She is starting to sing along when we sing to her. Her favorite song is "Bye-bye Binky." (An Elmo song of course). Mentioning this song reminds me that she is also a binky addict. She pronounces it "bebe" and she treats it as precious as a baby.

She also loves Jewel's "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" which she considers her and daddy's song. She insists he is there with her, holding and dancing with her, whenever we play it. (It's adorable, but Mama C wants to know why she doesn't have a song with Ella).

She sleeps in her crib for a couple of hours or so each night and then ends up in bed with Mama. Mama acts annoyed in front of other people, but secretly loves it.
Daddy trying to entice Ella to sleep in her crib.

Her best friend at daycare is Cooper. She is obsessed with a baby there named Anna. She loves babies in general and always points them out to me whenever we come across one.

Ella can now open doors, including the front door and the sliding door screen. So, we're on lock down most of the time.

She has an extensive vocabulary and is a little spit-fire. We wouldn't have it any other way!

4th of July 2012

Despite our housing woes, we had a terrific 4th of July! Our little family of 3 was staying with Oma and Papa who are the BEST hosts.  Mama C had homemade Americano espressos every morning; Daddy got to have his own room; and Ella had a big pool to explore for the first time.

On the day of the 4th, Aunt B, Marty and the boys came by to enjoy the pool. Ella put her feet in and loved it! We all had a great time splashing around and enjoying each other's company.

Aunt B made a wonderful, "Not Yo Mama's Banana Pudding." Ella helped! She loves helping in the kitchen.

Later that evening, the Aunt B clan left and the rest of us had a wonderful chicken and steak dinner. Papa John broke in his new barbecue. We ate by the pool and had a wonderful time.

Later that evening, we headed out to the street to light some fireworks. Miss Ella enjoyed the first one that had lots of color and sparkle, but hated the next one that whistled (it was pretty loud). She cried and said, "all done, all done" so we decided that we were, in fact, "all done" and headed back in. Maybe next year?

Thank you to Oma and Papa for making our 4th one of our best yet!

Back Home

Hey all,

Just wanted to let y'all know we've moved back into our Natomas house, and we are happy to be there. Things are starting to feel normal and good again.

Moving Nightmare

So...we moved to Elk Grove and now we're moving back to Natomas to our same house in less than a week. We stayed 2 whole nights in the Elk Grove house and had to get out of there as soon as possible due to an awful, putrid smell that permeates the whole house (because it IS the house itself that stinks) and it's just plain dirty. We think it might be rotting from the inside out, and there were definitely pets living there sometime in the recent past.

"Didn't you smell this when you first looked at the house?" you might be thinking to yourself... NO! The owner had just painted and had all the windows open, a breeze coming through and some new carpeting, so that's what we smelled. On the first day we received the keys, we went over to do what we expected to be some minor disinfecting, and immediately encountered the smell, as well as a very dirty house that had allegedly been cleaned by the owner, but is in dire need of a professional team of cleaners. Needless to say, we were miserable, worried about the smell (what it was and what it was doing to our baby's health), and wanted out immediately. The landlord, who turns out to be a very nice man, graciously let us out of our 6 month lease, but we did need to pay for one month. We have the house for that long too, so we have a really expensive, stinky storage unit for all of our possessions. The smell has unfortunately attached itself to our stuff though. I noticed this as I was bringing a box of random kitchen items back to the Natomas house. We're going to thoroughly wash everything, but you can't really wash a mattress or couch. [I'm doing a lot of deep, slow breathing these days in order to try to prevent myself from TOTALLY FREAKING OUT].

All in all, this has been a very costly, very disappointing experience. However, there's lessons and love in every situation. Our family and friends have been very supportive, and we're so fortunate that the new landlord let us out of the lease and our old landlord welcomed us back (of course we had to sign that 12 month lease which started this whole thing in the first place). Regardless, we are so grateful to be able to move back into our clean, good smelling, safe little house and neighborhood. It's been professionally cleaned (carpets and the house itself) so that's a positive.

Currently, we're looking for professional movers. (We will not ask our friends to move us again a week later. It was a long, tough move and we just can't do that to them again). In the meantime, we're crashing at Oma and Papa's. They have been a wonderful blessing to us (as always) and are making this time of transition so much easier on us. Oma is doing our laundry, Papa is making us amazing Americanos, the cooking is wonderful, the house is clean and smells good, and Ella is being doted on. Life goes on; we'll be okay.

Love to all!

Mama C
